📦 Or count your boxes by size
The ships that take them all in one load, and how to pack each one: open a ship.
ℹ️ How to read this
- Hold is the ship's cargo capacity in SCU. Largest box is the biggest cargo box (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 or 32 SCU) any of its cargo grids takes, and How many is the most of those boxes that fit at once. Open a ship for how many of every size fit and its grids one by one.
- Count your boxes: under Your load, open Or count your boxes by size and type how many of each size you're hauling. The table keeps only the ships that take every box in one load (each one is packed to check), smallest hold first, with the SCU to spare; open a ship to see how to load it, grid by grid, and what more would fit.
- The drawings in a ship's details show each cargo grid in 3D, seen from above one corner, with the boxes stacked in it (one cell per SCU on the floor). With no load typed, the hold is filled to the brim: biggest boxes first, smaller ones in the gaps, the most it can carry. Grids alike and loaded alike are drawn once (× how many). Where a grid sits in the ship isn't in the files, so they're drawn one by one.
- Your load: type the SCU a contract asks you to move and the largest box it comes in (the contract says "in containers 16 SCU or smaller"). The table then shows only ships that take that box, fewest loads first, and the best fit is named above it: the smallest hold that carries it all in one go. Hauling missions in the Mission Catalog link here with their load filled in.
- Box counts are worked out from each grid's size: boxes stand upright and turn flat, as the game places them, and stack in layers. A real hold can lose a box or two to the ship's shape, so treat the count as the most you can expect.
- Which box sizes a ship takes comes from UEX (its list for each ship, read daily). The game's files list a size limit for each grid too, but it isn't what the game holds boxes to (it says 1 SCU for the Ironclad, which takes 32s), so it's only used for ships UEX doesn't list; their details say so.
- From the game's own files (game build 4.10.2-LIVE.12881860, datamined by the Star Citizen Wiki), not from what players report. Ships the files list more than once under one name show once.
